Heilongjiang

The province in the northeastern part of China has a population of nearly 37 million people. There are 38 minority groups in the province, such as the Hezhe fishermen and the Ewenki hunters.

The capital is called Harbin and is known for its music and, during winter, is often referred to as the “City of Ice.” The climate is quite similar to the northern parts of the Nordic countries, with temperatures of 20-25 degrees Celsius in summer and heavy snowfall along with very cold winters, often below -30 degrees Celsius.

If you enjoy winter and skiing, this can be an amazing experience with ski and ice festivals. In the summer, there’s plenty to see, such as volcanic ravines, Jing Po Lake (China’s largest mountain lake), the stunning Diao Shui Lou waterfall, or why not visit the Arctic village of Mohe, where, if you’re lucky, you can see aurora borealis similar to the northern lights we have in the far north.
