Business contact
Doing business with China—is it difficult? Yes, it might sound that way, but in fact, it’s no more difficult than doing business anywhere else.
The biggest challenge is probably finding your customer, supplier, or even a reliable business partner. As mentioned, there are quite a few companies to choose from, so it’s important to take your time and build a stable relationship for the long term.
Here at the association, we believe that having some help from someone who understands the culture and business environment—and not least, speaks the language—is an invaluable asset. Although most companies are trustworthy, there are those who specialize in “tricking” unsuspecting first-time importers, for example.
What about quality?
Yes, people have (always) said that quality from China isn’t very durable. That’s true to some extent—actually, it’s common to produce certain products in different quality levels, each with a corresponding price (which is quite clever, really). The lowest quality usually stays in China, but the mid-range quality products are also sold in places like Scandinavia. You get what you pay for, so to speak, and buyers are generally satisfied; otherwise, these products wouldn’t sell.
What isn’t talked about as much, however, is the highest quality level, where the Chinese can certainly compete with well-known skilled European countries like Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland. This also applies to technology, which in many cases is far more advanced than in the West.
China’s education policy, which promotes students into so-called “elite classes,” has contributed to a very high level of expertise and knowledge. Incidentally, these are often the very people who work as guest workers at, for example, our own proud companies developing Swedish products.
China is currently the country with the fastest-growing GDP, and it’s booming! If you have a good market idea or perhaps a profitable invention, I can assure you there is interest and investment capacity.
If you have any questions or thoughts, please don’t hesitate to reach out. As mentioned, we have quite an extensive network and believe we can connect you within most industries—everything from study visits to, well, you name it!
